Tuckernuck is a privately owned island located to the west of Nantucket, right off Madaket. There are about 35-40 homes on Tuckernuck with no public utilities or paved roads; it is these residents who own the island. You can find some of the best fishing and clamming off the shores of Tuckernuck. Occasionally a property on Tuckernuck will be listed on the market if you are looking for peace, quiet, and self-sufficiency Tuckernuck may be the place for you.
Muskegat Island is west of Tuckernuck and Nantucket Island and is a designated National Natural Landmark. Muskegat is inaccessible to most boats due to the shoals and sand bars. You should reconsider smaller boats such as kayaks because the rip currents, swells, and whirlpools can make it deadly. Muskegat is also the breeding ground for a large population of grey seals.
